Did you go through the cross, or just kneel at it? Like John Bunyan’s characters Formalist and Hypocrisy, a Christian can avoid the cross and enter the narrow path via shortcut. This, however, is trespassing. It violates God’s revealed will that we die with Christ.
How do you know if you’ve died with Christ? Simply, “he that is dead is freed from sin” (Romans 6:12). If you still continue to sin against God, you haven’t died.
If you aren’t free from sin today, it’s not time to work harder. Instead, it’s time to die. Then, the promise is, “if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection” (Romans 6:5). Are you crucified with Christ?
