Thorns of Destruction

Jesus cut the church in half when he said, “Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish” (Matthew 25:1-2). What happened to their oil? The parable of the sower indicates three thorns that will drain oil away: the responsibilities of life, love for money, and desire for other things. Underlying these three thorns of destruction is the question: what is the love of your heart? Anyone or anything, besides Jesus, to which you go for comfort or provision is a thorn. If Jesus came tonight, would you have any oil?
