Keep Your Hands to the Plow! (2018)

Jesus said, “No man, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62). The prophet Elisha is an example of one who didn’t look back. Instead, he burned his farm equipment, slaughtered and ate his oxen, and devoted the rest of his life to serving God.

Jesus made it very clear that service and salvation can’t be separated. As Catherine Booth said,

“The true service of God is obedience prompted by love. ‘If ye love Me, keep My commandments.’ ‘Why call ye Me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things that I say?’ ‘The first and greatest commandment is this, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart.’ How can a man love God when his heart is estranged, and full of sin and rebellion and selfishness? Impossible!

Are you fit for the kingdom of God?
