Do you lovingly, longingly wait for the second coming of Jesus? An ardent, focused love for Jesus’ return chills the natural passion for earthly trinkets. When we really want to see Jesus come again, we gladly give everything for the kingdom.
Similarly, worldliness will cool off one’s love for Jesus. This results in the 50/50 split seen in the parable of the wise and foolish virgins. If we earnestly expect the second coming of Jesus, we will fill our lamps with the oil of righteousness. We will live with integrity and obey Jesus. But, if we use church as inspiration to refuel our tank before jumping into another hectic week, we won’t make any time for Jesus. He won’t be the center of our lives. As a result, he will say at the judgment, “I never knew you.”
What are you doing today that would cause Jesus to shut the door of heaven in your face? “Behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2). If Jesus came back today, would he find your lamp burning with righteousness?
