The prophet Jeremiah warned of Israel, “Reprobate silver shall men call them, because the LORD hath rejected them” (6:30). You may ask, why would God reject a sinner? Simply, God will reject sinners who are unwilling to be saved on God’s terms.
God’s terms for salvation require total, complete abandonment to God and his will. The sinner repents and forsakes all sin. He makes restitution. Moreover, he decides to distrust himself. Instead of operating in his own wisdom, he looks to Jesus Christ at every moment. In a word, he becomes a new creature in Christ.
Jesus described this new creation when he said, “Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God” (3:5). The water is cleansing from sin, while the Spirit is the Spirit of Christ who dwells in every true believer and makes him holy.
So are you still a sinner today? Do you reject God’s terms for salvation, and comfort yourself with lies that you can still be saved while you love your sin? If so, you are in danger of becoming reprobate. It’s time to leave your old ways. Will you turn off the TV, dump your spiritual superiority, and get in the prayer closet and get real with Jesus?
