When Achan stole and hid gold, silver, and fine clothing from God, the Lord withdrew from Israel, and thirty-six people died in battle. The Lord exposed Achan’s sin to all Israel, who stoned and burned Achan and his family. Just as the fire of judgment consumed Achan, the fires of hell will consume us if we do not allow the Holy Spirit to probe us and uncover the worst parts of our hearts. And just as Achan’s brothers died because of his sin, our fellow men are dying in sin while the Church at-large remains powerless because she refuses the work of the Holy Spirit to bring her to repentance, and brays, “We’re all sinners!” Are you still a sinner? Or do you fear sinning? Will you spread your sin before the Lord now in deep repentance and a holy fear of God, that you and those around you might be saved; or will you wait until the Day of Judgment, and be damned?
American Christians, as a whole, have jettisoned the true gospel. Many teach that we can still be saved even if we love the world and walk according to our own understanding. But the gospel of Jesus Christ requires us to die to our sin in order to be born again. Has the supernatural work of God transformed you into a new creature in Christ? Or have you just used a little bit of Jesus spray paint to gussy up the old man? Has it hit you yet that you are going to be judged by your works–and the only way to be saved is to allow Christ, by faith, to make you and your works really righteous?
On today’s broadcast, Pastor Ray continues the study of Hebrews. In the modern church, there’s no sense of any linear movement in the Christian life, only a life of religious rituals. The unspoken but implied belief is that there is no victory over sin in the Christian life. Listen to the broadcast and hear about the linear nature of the Gospel, Jesus doesn’t leave us to die in our sin. Jesus came to sózó (save) us.
In today’s encore broadcast, Pastor Ray encourages us to look at the cause/effect relationship of sin. This cause/effect nature of sin has been clouded by our feelings. God’s grace enables us to say no to sin. Do you want to live a new life in Jesus free of sin? That’s what was Jesus wants to give you through His power, although we must be crucified with Christ. Be encouraged to give Him everything!
Today, there are two distinct classes of Christians with two different views of salvation. The first type regards the gospel as salvation from sin. They have renounced sin and hate and dread the thought of sinning even once, because they do not want to grieve Jesus whom they love so much.
The other class of Christian regards salvation as a complex system of indulgences that pardons their sin but does not give them victory over it. This false gospel has destroyed the church in America. Have you hardened your heart in unbelief that you will ever be fully delivered from sin? Such salvation is 100% by faith: it is utterly and completely the work of Jesus. His desire is to make us righteous, just, and holy!
